Peter Gelagotis

Peter Gelagotis has learnt some very important lessons from a very early age. Demand respect and give it where it is due. Work hard, listen to the right people and stick together with people you can rely upon and this has been the recipe of his climb to the top in the Victorian Training Ranks.

His father Michael's influence and guidance has played a major part in the racing success of the Gelagotis Stables. Michael has owned or trained harness horses and greyhounds throughout his early years in Australia since migrating in 1956 and decided to try his hand at the gallopers after a move to Moe on this wonderful property. Being a friend of the late Colin Hayes led to Michael receiving Lindsay Park cast offs to work his magic with and had instant success with horses like Royal Mask , Opine Trust & Wonder Worker who were trained by his good friend Kevin Ruff at Sale and once Michael took his own license he trained himself horses like The Heath , Boomerang , Sir Rosebank , Lesvos Ruler and many others.

Peter began learning his craft from his father until ultimately stepping into his footsteps as a trainer. Peter took the reigns and decided to commit himself to the family passion of racing horses and became head Trainer of the racing empire that Michael started and in recent years has taken the hobby farm to an international level where he has prepared , trained and sold horses that have won all over the world inc America and Asia.

His goal is to ensure that every horse in his care fulfils their potential and he does this by ensuring that they are fit, healthy and happy and have the best people treating them and looking after them from Farriers, Chiropractors inc Vets. The stable numbers are always kept at a managable number to ensure the horses receive the personal attention they deserve and this approach has served him well over the years with many successes including 2016 Sprint Stars Malaguerra and Illustrious Lad who took the Flemington Spring Carnival by storm , 2015 WFA champion and Group 1 winner Mourinho (winner of over 1 Million in prizemoney & multiple group winner) , Hvasstan who conquered the best 3yo in Melbourne and was Group 2 winner of Norman Robinson Stakes (now at Stud in QLD at Clear Mountain Fairview) , SAVQUAW (Winner of the 2009 Moe Cup and 2010 Gippsland Horse of the Year), Belgietto (2011 Gippsland Horse of the Year) , Crying Storm & , Floramour whom are both Stakes Winners in Adelaide , Big Col and of course the country cups star Module (winner of time honoured Bagot Handicap) who was a revelation in the Gelagotis stable when purchased from the Williams dispersal winning over $300k . In 2016 the stable was given the job to rehabilitate Tasmanian Champion The Cleaner to full health including some terrific performances at WFA level before retiring to Living Legends which was a great effort at 9 years of age.
