From Last to First: Regal Azmon Powers Home for Group Glory

Regal Azmon Stuns Morphettville with Explosive Group 3 Victory

On Saturday at Morphettville, Regal Azmon delivered a performance that will be talked about for a long time.

In the Group 3 Hahn Cummings Stakes, he defied a tough race shape, serious weight disadvantages, and pre-race market drift to unleash one of the most explosive finishes we’ve seen this season.

Settling at the rear of the field as the leaders controlled a steady mid-race tempo, Regal Azmon looked to have it all against him.

The early pace didn’t suit backmarkers, and with rivals like Aaron Bay enjoying massive weight swings in their favour, the form experts were siding elsewhere.

But we had a plan and  jockey Lachlan Neindorf stuck to it.

Neindorf rode with supreme confidence.

“He’s a bit of a quirky horse — he just wants to be left alone early. Once he gets that space, he can really launch,” he said. And launch he did. At the 400-metre mark, Regal Azmon was still near last and facing a wall of horses.

But once he peeled out into clear air, he let rip with a jaw-dropping turn of foot, storming past the field and swallowing them up in a matter of strides.

“From the clouds, if you don’t mind!” roared the race caller as Regal Azmon surged to the lead.

It was a performance that stunned punters and silenced doubters — the kind of win that leaves even seasoned professionals shaking their heads in admiration.

Trainer Phillip Stokes was understandably thrilled with the result, and proud of the journey the horse has taken.

“He’s gone to another level. He’s lightly raced for a rising eight-year-old, and has come back from a tendon injury better than ever,” he said.

“Huge thanks to Lee Everson for the rehab — this win is as much his as it is ours.”

The magnitude of the moment wasn’t lost on the team.

To win a race named in honour of the legendary Bart Cummings is a privilege in itself — but to do it in such dominant fashion made the achievement even sweeter.

Regal Azmon didn’t just win — he did it with style, character, and class.

There’s now talk of a freshen-up, with the Brisbane winter carnival under consideration.

Nothing is confirmed, but one thing is certain: Regal Azmon has stamped himself as a genuine stakes-class galloper with more to come.

A huge thank you goes to Phillip Stokes and his brilliant team, and to Lachlan Neindorf for a perfectly judged ride under pressure.

And to our loyal owners — thank you for your patience and trust. Wins like this are what make the journey so worthwhile.

This was special. This was Regal Azmon.
