Regal Duke Claims His County

Regal Duke puts everything together showing a wonderful turn of foot to charge home and knock off Ciaron’s highly favoured galloper.

Most impressively, Regal Duke had to make his run behind a slow tempo and reel in the favourite which kicked 2- 3 lengths clear in the straight.

The key was the removal of the gear which allowed the Duke to settle just off the pace.

Strong rider Jack Hill nursed the inexperienced Regal Duke along in a tremendous ride.

Regal Duke is very green, but possesses a very competitive nature.

As soon as the leader shot clear in the straight and Regal Duke balanced up…. his ears pricked and charged at this horse.

It was never going to be in doubt from here.

Regal Duke is still very much a work in progress but we are taking some nice steps forward.

A horse which will easily step out to 2000m, learning to settle today was very encouraging and it was great to see his turn of foot when needed.
