Ownership

The racing life, without the hard work.

Bring some excitement to your life, make new friends, and compete at the best tracks across the country.

What it is like

One of the most exhilarating experiences of your life.

To observe and be part of a horse's journey from a yearling through to a potential star — being in the headlines of every major newspaper and on television — is an experience that can only be explained by actually going through it.

The build-up, the anticipation, the anxiety as your horse heads for its first race, all add to emotions and suspense that are hard to put into words.

Then to actually win.

Racehorse partnerships offer all the fun and excitement of the Sport of Kings for a fraction of the cost of full ownership. Owning a share is much more affordable than you might imagine.

With Regal Bloodstock you are in the hands of experienced professionals who assist you all the way, from your selection right through to managing the daily performance and care of your horse.

What an owner receives

You will always know what is going on behind the scenes.

As an owner you receive consistent, honest communication throughout your horse's career — whether it is in full work, spelling in the paddock, or on its way to the races.

  1. Every week

    An update either way

You receive weekly updates on your horse, whether it is in full work with the trainer or out spelling in the paddock. Photos, video footage and audio updates from the trainer are provided as well.

    Training updates
  2. Ready to trial

    The updates step up

You are notified as soon as your horse has been nominated for a trial, with the track, date and time. We would encourage you to attend; if you cannot, a summary and the trainer's comments follow immediately after.

  3. Nominated to race

    Nomination, weights, acceptances

You receive the information immediately when your horse is nominated for a race, when weights are released and at acceptances, together with the jockey engaged to ride.

  4. The day before

A written summary, and a call

The day before the race you receive a written summary from Regal Bloodstock: the trainer's assessment, Regal's own analysis, and the race tactics to be executed. We then call you personally about ticket requirements and where to meet on course.

  5. After the race

The result, and how the horse pulled up

After the race we provide a summary of the result with the trainer's and jockey's comments, how the horse has recovered, and where the next targeted race might be.

  6. Any time

    Access to your horse

You are the owner, and we want you to make the most of it. You may have access to your horse at any time — we would only be too happy to arrange it.

How we work

We take our service to the next level.

I

We listen to you

This business was built on experience of being either a manager or an owner in numerous racing partnerships. We are open to new ideas, and flexible enough to manage the experience that best suits you — in whatever format of contact suits you best.

II

You are important

Whether you own a 5% share or a 55% share, a race veteran or a newcomer, you should feel completely free to share your thoughts and give us your opinions. We cannot think of a better way for the relationship to grow.

III

Proactive, not reactive

With communication and feedback channels established from the start, you have comfort in the decisions ahead and an integral part in the journey.

  • Assemble inside the inner circle before the race to see your horse saddled, and hear the tactics discussed by trainer and jockey.
  • Celebrate a victory with your horse and the team inside the winner's circle, and enjoy the function afterwards, with photos.
  • Owners' tickets from the race club, usually up to 20 per horse, with mounting yard access before and after the race. When a club limits tickets, we ballot them fairly among the owners planning to attend.
  • Owners of 5% or more are named in the racebook.
  • Invitations to Regal Bloodstock events.
  • Fellowship and community with the other owners, the trainer and the racing management staff.
Managed for you

You enjoy the racing. We do the rest.

Regal's bloodstock and management team serves as your bloodstock adviser and racing manager, so you can enjoy all the excitement of racing while the day-to-day detail, management and duties sit with experienced professionals.

More than one horse

Many owners take a share in several horses rather than all of one. It helps maintain the action, and gives you more race days to look forward to.

Test the waters

A partnership is a good option if you want to dip a toe in the water first. It is a way to gain exposure and build strong relationships at low cost — and racing is a small family, so there is no better way to build your foundations.

If you succeed, we succeed

Our strategy is built on repeat owners and growth through their success and our communication. If you succeed, we succeed.

What a share is

What is included, and what it costs.

Every figure on this page comes from the Product Disclosure Statement for the horse concerned.

What a share includes

  • The share price covers your portion of the purchase price, the costs of buying and syndicating the horse, its keep from the sale until the syndicate starts, insurance for the first year, and registration fees, all including GST.
  • You own your share of the horse directly. Each horse is divided into forty 2.5% shares, held by the owners together for as long as the syndicate runs, until the horse is sold or retires.
  • Prizemoney and owners' bonuses are paid straight to your nominated bank account by the racing authority, such as Racing Victoria, in proportion to your share, usually within a few weeks of the race. Regal takes no percentage of prizemoney.
  • When a horse's racing career ends, it may be sold to race on or, for a colt, to stand at stud, with the proceeds shared among owners by their share. Otherwise it's rehomed into a suitable second career or a comfortable retirement.
  • You can sell your share at any time. It's offered to the other owners first, and we'll help you find a buyer. There's no guaranteed market, and Regal doesn't buy shares back.

What it costs

Share price
Set for each horse in its PDS. Shares are 2.5% each.
Monthly running costs

Anything payable beyond that
Entries for Group races, major vet treatment or surgery, and optional insurance after the first year.

Read the Product Disclosure Statement and the Financial Services Guide before acquiring a share. Both are available on request.
