John McArdle

Mornington

Patience, precision, and placing horses where they can win.

Forged in racing's most demanding environments, John McArdle spent his formative years absorbing the craft from some of Australia's finest horsemen — including Graeme Rogerson, Tony Vasil, and Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman, under whom he served as stable foreman for more than three years. When he took out his licence in November 2003, he brought not only that pedigree, but a clear philosophy: patience, precision, and placing horses where they can win.

Operating from Mornington — one of Victoria's premier training centres — McArdle has built a career of quiet authority.

Across more than 5,000 starters, he has recorded over 600 winners at a steady strike rate of approximately 18%, with recent seasons touching an impressive 20–25%. At the elite level, his 2 Group 1 victories with the outstanding Hollow Bullet — the 2004 VRC Oaks and 2005 Arrowfield Stakes — announced his arrival emphatically.

Stakes performers Danger Looms and the promising My Gladiola further underline his ability to identify and develop talent across sprint and middle-distance grades. Hands-on, detail-driven, and consistently rewarding for his owners — John McArdle is a trainer who quietly gets the job done.
