Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr

Cranbourne & Rosehill

A judge of a two-year-old, and a man who gets the best out of sprinters.

Mick Price has been among Australia's leading trainers since he took out his licence in 1991, after serving his time under three of the hardest schools in the business: Bob Hoysted, George Hanlon and Lee Freedman. In 1996 he moved into the Caulfield stables Freedman had vacated, and from there the career took off.

His first Group 1 came with Rustic Dream in the 1999 Futurity Stakes. By 2008–09 he was training six Group 1 winners in a single season from 124 winners all told. The horses that followed read like a roll call of their era's best sprinters and two-year-olds: Samaready, who won the 2012 Blue Diamond and retired after only thirteen starts; Extreme Choice; and Lankan Rupee, who took the Oakleigh Plate, the Newmarket Handicap and the T J Smith Stakes inside a single season.

Since 2019 he has trained in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr, son of the Group 1-winning trainer Michael Kent. The stable is based at Cranbourne with a second base at Rosehill, and by its own published figures has earned more than $161 million in prizemoney. Price's record stands at 49 Group 1 wins, including those in partnership with Michael Kent Jnr. In March 2026, Guest House gave him his first Golden Slipper.

A judge of a two-year-old, and a man who has been getting the best out of sprinters for more than thirty years.
